Item in need of a little Innovation

When asked to think about an item in need of a little innovation… I struggled. Suddenly, I found myself thinking of objects, and then realizing that it had already been done. Then one evening, as I prepared a little dinner for myself, I found my item.

The Strainer.

What can I say. My strainer couldn’t be more craptacular to use. It’s metal (which gets hot when you pour hot things into it). It’s got teeny handles (making it nearly impossible to keep your hands away from the hot metal).

The kicker… I can’t hold on to it and pour stuff into it, so I set it in the sink. My strainer has a solid metal base on it, it covers my sink drain. So when I pour my cooked noodles into the sink, the water that doesn’t go through the bottom holes backs up in the sink? Where else is it going to go. It’s really gross. I have learned that I have to be sure my sink is more than clean.

I checked out strainers in the store. They come in all colors and sizes. Even the one from OXO which was plastic didn’t seem to meet my expectations. In conclusion… I’m positive that the old school strainer’s days are numbered!
