Memo #6: Jamie Oliver’s Initiative

I just thought of this the other day when I was thinking about what impact I could make in the schools and how.

Jamie Oliver (whom I’ve always positively adored), is a chef. You may know him for his show, Naked Chef (the food is naked, not the chef), on the food network.

Jamie has set out to change the way school children in Great Britain eat. There was a TV show called, Feed Me Better

You can read Jamie’s Manifesto here.

You can also read about the success, through the eyes of Jamie’s right hand women, Nora. Nora is a cook in the schools that Jamie worked with. It sounds like the kids are adapting and I think it’s interesting (and delicious) to read about the snacks they serve in replace of junk food.

And lastly, from this search I found this: The School Food Trust  I haven’t gotten to explore or read much here, but there is a wealth of information about the official initiatives happening in the UK, Case Studies, Games, and more.

Compared to other sites that I’ve looked at, (Small Step.Gov, BAM, etc) this is a lot easier to naviagate, feels more up-to-date, fun and fresh.

  1. Wow. So this document, and this School Food Trust Initiative is what it’s all about.

It’s about empowering the people to carry out a plan, and it looks like someone is working with the schools to help do this.
