I have been struggling all weekend with my thesis work. I have cancelled plans, disappointed friends, and moped about town for several days.
This evening as I was leaving the library… frustrated and defeated by the lack of completeness to my work… I spotted a Collegiate 4-H’er on sitting in the lobby. I just plopped down beside of her, and we began to talk about all of overwhelming amounts of school work.
This conversation went from just idle chit-chat to all of the good things in life and how we hoped to somehow make a positive impact in many of life’s areas. I am so grateful that I spotted my friend at the library, just that small chat reminded me of why I’m here, how I got here, and motivation to move forward! Thanks Emma ; )
A couple of weeks ago, while waiting for my sandwich at Panera, someone standing beside me said, “Excuse me, are you Jack?” I looked up and answered in the affirmative.
“Jack Moffett?”
“Yes, I’m Jack Moffett.”
It turned out to be a guy I had been in school with from kindergarten right through high school. We had been really good friends in elementary school, but due to differing interests and levels of academic achievement, we were only acquaintances by college. Now he’s working at Qdoba.
I don’t know what his goals and dreams were then or are now. Maybe he’s satisfied. As for me, I’m very appreciative of my college education and where it has taken me.
Sometimes, we just need little reminders.
